SARA ATKINSON
Sara Atkinson grew up in Raleigh, NC and began her dance training at Carolina Dance Center the year the studio opened in 2004! She trained in all genres, including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip Hop. While at CDC, Sara was involved in multiple performance companies and was honored to perform and compete works from guest artists such as Dana Foglia, Mark Goodman, Emily Greenwell, Derek Mitchell, and Mishay Petronelli. She also had the opportunity to choreograph, perform, and compete her own pieces.

In 2012, Sara joined the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler and Rachel Teem. As a 5-year member, Sara took classes and performed works from artists including Michelle Dorrance, Nicholas Young, Elizabeth Burke and Jason Janas. During her summers, she attended the Chicago Human Rhythm Project where she was selected by Derrick Grant to perform in JUBA.
In the Spring of 2022, Sara graduated Magna Cum Laude from East Carolina University with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. During her time in Greenville, she taught tap and hip hop, and led the tap ensemble at NC Dance Academy of Dance Arts. Her work was featured at Pitt county’s Distinguished Young Women event. While at ECU, Sara performed works choreographed by Joe-Joe Smith, Lindsay Shepherd, Tommi Galaska and Dirk Lumbard. Her favorite memory was from her senior year when she was given the opportunity to collaborate with Tommi Galaska and Kenard Williams to create a Tap and Jazz mash up piece that closed out the MainStage show of Spring Dance 2022. Sara is super excited to be back at CDC now as a teacher! She can’t wait to share her knowledge and love for dance with her students!
